Hello Altamont Families,
I’d like to start off by saying thank you to everyone who read my blurbs in our last two newsletters and have taken action regarding our expectations related to attendance, dismissal and electronic devices! We have noticed improvements in these areas. Also, I would like to thank the vast majority of our students and families who have regularly complied with these expectations throughout your time with us here at Altamont! I am happy to return now to celebrating the more positive aspects of our wonderful school!
*Students of the Month – We had another wonderful Student of the Month assembly last week honoring students for demonstrating excellent critical thinking, one of our 4 Cs! Our ASB again did a great job helping us organize and run our assembly! Our ASB plays the music, produces and shows a skit related to our theme, and they also organize and run a game that all of our students of the month participate in. This month our game was a donut eating contest that even I had the pleasure of participating in. Please see our Panther News newsletter for a list of our awesome students of the month.
*Science Night- We are excited about our upcoming, annual Family Science Night which will take place next Wednesday, February 13th, beginning at 6:00 p.m. As always, we will be displaying the outstanding science projects that our students have completed as well as there will be interactive games, demonstrations, food and more! Please see the flyer in our Panther News newsletter for more information.
*Attendance Challenge- Beginning February 12th and lasting through March 22nd, Altamont will be running an attendance challenge contest! Every week through that time the class with the fewest absences and tardies will be rewarded with an ice cream party. The class with the overall best throughout the entire challenge will win a pizza party. Make sure you do your best to come to school on time every day Panthers, your class is depending on you!
*Panther Basketball- Our basketball teams are off to a great start to this 2019 season! Both of our girl’s teams are undefeated at 3-0 and our boys’ teams are both 2-1. Our girls’ teams have victories over Hansen, Questa and Lammersville. Our boys’ teams have also defeated Hansen and Lammersville, however, they were beaten by Questa last week. Next week, our girl’s look to stay
undefeated when they play Wicklund at Altamont on Tuesday. On Thursday, our boys will play Wicklund at Wicklund. Coaching our teams this year are Ed Sanares (7th/8th grade boys), Nolan Dixon (5th/6th grade boys), Usha Chulliyil (7th/8th girls), and Lindsay Webb (5th/6th girls). We are thrilled to have Nolan, Usha and Lindsay return to us after a hiatus, and we are also thrilled to welcome Ed to the Altamont coaching family!
